A traffic stop in Oak Bay went awry on Aug. 1, when a prohibited driver with outstanding warrants fled police in the 1600 block of Hampshire Road.
The suspect ran through nearby yards in efforts to evade capture – a move that caught the attention of a retired Oak Bay PD officer.
"Once a cop, always a cop," the police department said in a news release, adding the retired officer discreetly followed the suspect while calling the police.
The individual, who did not possess a valid driver’s licence, was soon located and arrested – bringing the short chase to an abrupt end.
Police issued multiple violation tickets and impounded the car.
