Last January, I wrote a letter to Sidney's Engineering Department requesting that sidewalks be completed on the south side of Malaview Avenue, between 2433 and two neighbouring houses to allow safe walking from our apartment building to existing sidewalks. I pointed out that residents of Roberts Manor could not exit the property safely without jaywalking across a fairly busy subdivision street. Malaview Avenue is quite busy, at times, with traffic going both directions as well as parking on both sides of the street.
Within a few weeks, I received a letter from Connor Bankes, the senior engineering technician, thanking me for my concern and assuring me that, pending budget approval, the town would undertake to complete the aforementioned sidewalk between Third and Fifth streets.
Then, in June, the work began. When I returned from a trip, I was thrilled to see the sidewalk complete between the two streets. This is more than I requested, and I am most grateful! Other walkers have expressed their gratitude, as well.
Thank you, Connor Bankes and the town workers.
