The City of Victoria has placed an accessible mat at Ross Bay for the summer.

More people will be able to enjoy the waterfront at Ross Bay this summer as the City of Victoria has once again installed an accessibility mat at the rocky beach.

The seasonal mat provides a smooth and stable surface for those who use wheelchairs and others with mobility challenges, the city said.

"It helps create an inclusive recreation space where everyone can experience the simple joy of taking in the ocean view or cooling down at the water on a hot summer’s day," the City of Victoria said.

The mat will be in place at Ross Bay until the end of September.

A similar initiative is going on in Oak Bay as an accessible mat has been rolled out at Willows Beach for the second straight year. The "Mobi-mat" aims to allow easier access to the beach from the Bowker Road entrance.
