Michelle Cabana - Group Publisher

I am the group publisher for Greater Victoria, leading a team of about 60 staff and approximately 1,250 newspaper carriers.

I was born in Ottawa to a military family, and I lived in Halifax before my family settled in the Comox Valley.

After time in other parts of Canada, I've come back to Vancouver Island and rediscovered the comfort of Victoria as my home base.

I took on the role of Bureau Chief when we created the Greater Victoria editorial hub in 2018.

A seasoned editor at the Victoria Hub, bringing extensive journalism experience from both civilian and military publications.

Throughout my career, I've taken on roles as a reporter and editor in more than a dozen newsrooms across the province.

I'm an award-winning photojournalist, videographer, producer, and director.

My career kicked off by working in the political section of Gazeta do Povo, which is one of the prominent newspapers in Brazil.

I joined the national team with Black Press Media in 2023 from the Peninsula News Review, where I had reported on Vancouver Island's Saanich Peninsula since 2019.

I have been a Black Press Media journalist for more than 30 years and today coordinate digital news content across our network.

I'm a provincial reporter for Black Press Media's provincial team, after my journalism career took me around B.C. since I was 19 years old.
