Beat the heat with these free West Shore summer events

Music, yoga, farmers’ markets and more on offer

With summer in full swing, there are lots of family-friendly events to take advantage of while getting out and enjoying some sunshine.

Here are just some of the free events taking place this summer on the West Shore.

Tuesday Colwood Neighbourhood Nights

Colwood Neighbourhood Nights are back in action this summer. Running Tuesdays until the end of August, these events take place from 6 to 8 p.m. in Royal Bay’s Meadow Park. Games, activities and crafts are all led by West Shore Parks and Recreation.

Bring a picnic dinner, enjoy the outdoors, get active and reconnect with neighbours and friends. No preregistration is required but the program may be cancelled due to weather.

Yoga in the park Thursdays

Grab a water bottle and your mat to join outdoor yoga sessions in Royal Bay’s Meadow Park. These free sessions run Thursdays until Sept. 14 from 6 to 7 p.m.

All levels are welcome.

Friday socials in Metchosin

Drop in for coffee and conversation on the last Friday of the month from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Metchosin Community House. Hosted by Baha’is of Metchosin and the Seniors’ Resource Centre, this event is open to everyone. The Seniors’ Resource Centre also offers rides to anyone who may need it, call 250-478-5150 for more information.

Fridays at the Station

The Victoria Beer Society is back with its pop-up summer series Fridays at the Station. Running every Friday until Aug. 25, this event takes place at the Langford Station from 4 to 8 p.m. and features a selection of food trucks, local businesses and art studios, live music and craft beer.

Eats and Beats Beach Party 2023

Eats and Beats is back but in a new location this year. Taking over Royal Beach, this event runs Saturday, July 29, from 1 until 8 p.m. Live music will be featured throughout the day along with a food truck festival, craft beer garden, street market, climbing wall, paddling, cycling and more.

Goldstream Farmers’ Market

Transforming Veterans Memorial Park on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until Oct. 7, the Goldstream Farmers’ Market is back in Langford.

Vendors offering local produce, fresh-baked bread and goodies, quality crafts and textile creations and more artisan offerings will fill the park with their offerings.

Music in the Park Sundays

On Sundays in July and August, Music in the Park takes over Veterans Memorial Park (at the corner of Goldstream Avenue and Veterans Memorial Parkway) from 2 to 4 p.m.

Bring a fold-out chair and your dancing shoes for an afternoon of entertainment with live music and a playground featuring a splash park for the kids.

Metchosin Farmers Market

A true country market, this farmers’ market is a community favourite. Vendors offer everything from local fruit, vegetables and meat to fresh-baked goodies, canning and quality crafts and textile creations. While you’re there, browse the Pioneer Museum or check out the Old Barn Bookstore.

The market runs Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. until the last Sunday in October at the Metchosin municipal grounds, 450 Happy Valley Rd.
