In its first hour Camosun College’s food cart sold out of its traditional wheat ramen noodles on Wednesday.
But the ramen never stopped ($10 a bowl), and neither did the lineup, as chef Steve Walker-Duncan swapped in a pot of rice noodles to go with the ramen instead. Faculty and students alike slurped ramen in the open seated lounge area of the Centre for Business and Access building.
“We looked at what’s popular with the age demographic [at Camosun] and noodle cart is the thing a lot of [students] liked,” said Culinary Arts instructor Chris Hammer. “It’s a cold day outside, we thought ramen would be perfect for today.”
The student-run food cart is a weekly new feature at Camosun’s Interurban campus, which is also home to college’s Culinary Arts program. The food cart will offer one popular dish every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at different locations around the Interurban campus.
After Dec. 6 the food-cart will go on hiatus but will return in January, likely with a taco station and then a chili bar.
