Camp Phoenix, the flagship project of the B.C. Youth Parliament, is returning to Sooke for a week of outdoor adventures and is actively seeking new campers.

The program is for young people who may not have access to summer camp due to financial or social constraints. Volunteers aged 16 to 22 operate the camp.

“Camp Phoenix is such an important project. It represents the best of what young people can do when we come together,” says camp administrator Megan Ryan-Lloyd.

“I spent a lot of time at summer camp myself as a child and I am grateful to be able to share that experience with others, one camper at a time.”

Camp Phoenix returned to its full capacity following the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022, and this year’s camp will be held in Sooke, as a sleepaway camp from Aug. 23- 27.

Campers will take part in a variety of activities including arts and crafts, science, and water activities. With full subsidies available and a near 1:1 camper-staff ratio, Camp Phoenix is equipped to accommodate campers of all backgrounds.
