Sooke Food Bank received two coolers full of fish from the South Vancouver Island Anglers Coalition after an annual fishing derby on Sept. 8.

The Sooke Food Bank is reeling in appreciation after it received two coolers full of fish caught during a recent derby.

The South Vancouver Island Anglers Coalition donated the fillet-filled coolers to the charity after holding its annual Juan de Fuca Fishing Tournament on Sept. 8.

"A BIG thank you to all the anglers who worked hard to catch this fish and decided to share their bounty with us," the food bank wrote in a Facebook post. "All of this goes a long way towards helping us feed our community."

The charity also thanked the angler coalition for donating a generous portion of the derby's 50/50 proceeds. The derby event also supports the coalition's Chinook salmon sea pen enhancement projects and angling advocacy.
