Avid readers can enjoy two weekends of the book-filled festivities this fall in Victoria.

The Victoria Festival of Authors opens with a launch weekend starting on Sept. 21 before the main festival runs Oct. 16 to 20.

This year's event will be the ninth instalment of the annual festival, which calls itself Vancouver Island's largest celebration of books and book lovers. The hybrid model will allow attendees to watch livestreamed events showcasing writers from around Canada and engage with regional authors during in-person programming.

New to the festival this year is a launch weekend on Sept. 21 and 22 which will include four workshops with several celebrated B.C. authors. It will also have a reading featuring all four of those authors.

The main festival will host a series of panel talks and other literary activities covering a range subjects. An itinerary can be found at https://victoriafestivalofauthors.ca/2024-events/

In a newsletter post, the festival said one of the aspects its most excited about is a fiction event on the Saturday of the main festival weekend where authors will offer their interesting and novel takes on time.

Tickets for both the virtual festival events and in-person ones hosted at Langham Court Theatre will have sliding-scale pricing that includes a free option.
