A season of song in the Capital City kicks off when the B.C. Legislature gets lit.

The official light-up of the historic building at the Inner Harbour kicks off the Celebrate the Season program. The free Friday (Nov. 29) event starts off with musical performances and activities from 4 to 5:30 p.m. with the official light up in the front driveway at 6.

Musical performances in the upper rotunda include the Linden Singers at 4 p.m., Ensemble Laude at 4:30, and Reynolds Secondary Band at 5. Starting at 6 p.m. outside on the front steps, the Glenlyon Norfolk Middle School Choir and the Victoria Children's Choir perform.

Seasonal singing continues with free concerts in the upper rotunda on the second floor at noon. Concerts are free but audiences must pass through security screening to attend.

Scheduled performances include: St. Joseph's Intermediate Choir on Dec. 2; Greater Victoria Police Chorus on Dec. 3; Christ Church Cathedral School - Young Choristers and String Ensemble on Dec. 5; Sing Victoria on Dec. 9; Pacific Edge Chorus on Dec. 10; Victoria Arion Male Choir on Dec. 11; Oak Bay High choir on Dec. 12; Greater Victoria Concert Band on Dec. 13 with a special 4 p.m. performance; South Park Choir on Dec. 16; Voices in Motion Choir on Dec. 17; Lake Hill Elementary on Dec. 18; St. Patrick's Elementary School Choir on Dec. 19; South Island Harmony Chorus on Dec. 20 followed by SingYourJoy Children's Choirs at 4 p.m. on Dec. 20.

The legislature also offers a special holiday edition of its Treasures from the Library Vault program.

The free, hour-long lecture The Politics and Holidays of Charles Dickens provides a close look at first-bound edition Dickens novels in the Legislative Library’s collection. Learn how Charles Dickens’ time as a parliamentary reporter changed his stories, and how his stories changed the world. The in-person session on Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. is full, but there is still space to join online.
