Five things to do in Greater Victoria this weekend

From the trails to the track and the pitch to the pavement, this weekend promises plenty of action. Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are five things to keep in mind.

Road to good taste – North Saanich Flavour Trails celebrates the quality of food and beverage producers found on the Saanich Peninsula. Self-guided tours Aug. 18 to 20 will beat a path to 18 different venues from farms to distilleries. The Community Celebration at Sandown Centre with music, food trucks and farm demos takes place Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Racing on track – The Pacific Grand Prix gets rolling Aug. 18 to 20 at the Westshore Velodrome, 1767 Island Hwy. Riders will be vying for $10K in prizes during the three-day event running 6-8 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Let the games begin – Canada’s women’s and men’s rugby sevens teams will look to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on home turf at Langford’s Starlight Stadium. The two-day tournament (Aug. 19 and 20) will see the Canadian women take on Bermuda, Jamaica, Mexico, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines in a six-team round-robin format. There will be nine teams in three pools on the men’s side, with Canada facing Bermuda and St. Lucia. Tickets start at $40.

Picnic in the park – All Sooke Day fills Fred Milne Park with fun activities Aug. 19 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The family-friendly event features live music, local vendors and a traditional salmon barbecue. The Sooke Lions pancake breakfast gets the festivities going, while there will also be a Kids Zone and three shows by the Laughing Loggers.

Let it ride – Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour De Victoria will fill the streets of Greater Victoria with cyclists of all ages and abilities Aug. 19, starting at 7 a.m. and running until about 3 p.m. The mass-participation ride features eight options ranging from a 15-kilometre route from Gonzales Bay to the B.C. legislature to a 160km tour spanning the city, Saanich Peninsula and the West Shore. There’s even a free children’s ride at 1 p.m. starting from Belleville Street and Menzies.
