Sunny Education & Service Corp., a provider of educational services for international students and their families, announces a new initiative aimed at helping international students and their accompanying parents transition smoothly to life in Victoria.

With over a decade of experience serving the local community, Sunny Education is spearheading a series of free workshops and classes beginning Aug. 10. The initiative will cover several topics, including academic support, traffic safety, shopping, basic financial services and insurance.

Additionally, starting on Sept. 6, Sunny Education will offer a weekly English conversation course specifically tailored to the needs of accompanying parents. Key topics will include finding a house, public transportation, medical care, communicating with the school, as well as banking and key services

As part of this course, the learning centre has organized four special on-site sessions where parents can practice their English conversation skills in real-world environments, such as grocery stores and service centres. These practical sessions are designed to enhance their confidence in handling everyday situations.

The English conversation course will be taught by the learning centre’s team of experienced Canadian teachers to ensure that participants receive authentic, locally informed guidance and instruction.

Volunteers are welcomed

While this program primarily caters to Chinese-speaking families, Sunny Education is eager to extend its services to a broader audience. To better serve families from diverse linguistic backgrounds, the organization seeks volunteers fluent in Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Russian. Ideal candidates will have lived in Victoria for at least 10 years or have been students here for over three years.

Sunny Education’s scheduled workshops and English conversation courses, including the practical on-site sessions, are all provided free of charge.
