As open houses pop up all over Greater Victoria, you can enjoy the beat of square dancing.

The Lower Vancouver Island Western Square & Round Dance Association is glad to invite you to these fun events, which promise a night of happy dancing and getting to know new people.

Mark your calendar for an open house at the Colwood Community Hall that is free to attend. You don’t need any training or a partner to join in. This is a wonderful chance to learn more about square dancing and its lively beats.

Two Sundays in a row you can go to Royal Oak Hall, where the spirit of square dancing comes to life. No matter how much experience you have or if you have a partner, everyone is welcome at these open houses.

“The most important is the new dancers’ class, Saturday, Sept. 16 (at 7 p.m. at Colwood hall). A free evening as an introduction to square dancing. We are also holding a benefit dance for Colwood Hall Aug. 30. Admittance is by donations. All experienced dancers welcome,” said Darrell Roberts.

As soon as the music starts and the dance floor calls out to you, take this chance to dive into the lively world of square dancing. It’s a time to remember as new friends are made and the joy of moving brings people together.

“The biggest reason I believe people enjoy the activity is it is an enjoyable way to exercise, an evening out to socialize with fellow dancers and making new friends. The clubs in the Victoria area visit each other’s clubs on club nights,” said Roberts.

On Sept. 10 and 17, from 7 to 9 p.m., there will be open houses in Saanich at Royal Oak Hall.
