Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra will fill the Farquhar Auditorium with orchestral music on April 12, marking the group's season finale.

Directed by Yariv Aloni, a violist who has performed and recorded worldwide, the performance boasts four solo concertos alongside works by Canadian composer Stephen Chatman and Hungarian Franz Liszt.

"Opening the concert is Chatman’s exhilarating Tara’s Dream, a piece commissioned by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in 1999 to ring in the new millennium," the concert's organizers said in a news release. "The spotlight then turns to this season’s talented soloists performing concertos for clarinet, flute, marimba and bass trombone. Closing the program is Liszt’s monumental Les Preludes, a piece that will bring the audience along on a journey of love, storms at sea, peaceful pastures and triumph."

Founded in 1986 by British musician Stuart Knussen, the ensemble has produced orchestras as far afield as Haida Gwaii, the Yukon, and the Kootenays. Since then, it has been kept alive by the dedication of gifted musicians and conductors, providing opportunities for young musicians to excel.
