Local opportunists hoping to rake in on the blizzard and solve the housing crunch all in one fell swoop have taken to Craigslist and Used Victoria with a unique – tongue-in-cheek – housing option.
An “executive” one-bedroom in Gordon Head is on offer for $1,650 a month for one person – the creator is not accepting couples, though cats are okay. The beautiful, spacious snow hut is in a peaceful neighbourhood, minutes away from Majestic Park and Mount Doug Park. Utilities not included.

If that price is out of range, a more affordable and cozy, eco-friendly option is available for just $500 a month in Fernwood. The snow hut, which is “cheaper than a hotel room,” does require a damage deposit and references.
For those finished with renting and wanting to enter the housing market, an option further afield may be the ticket.
In Nanaimo, a Craigslist poster “figured with real estate prices being what they are,” their one-bedroom creation is worth at least $75,000.
