Black Press and Staples, in partnership with Camosun College, are proud to recognize some of the great teachers found here in the Capital Region. We asked our readers to nominate teachers who have gone above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of the students they teach.

Deanna Ritchie is teacher at Oaklands elementary. Here’s what nominator Pasha Bannister had to say about her:

“Deanna has been the most supportive and encouraging teacher. She has gone above beyond helping advocate for my daughter and her struggles. She has made an adapted learning plan and has worked one on one in spite of having severs other students and young children of her own.

“Deanna is kind, dedicated and committed. Without her constant attentive teaching my daughter would not have had 2 successful years. She not only has encouraging and committed to my daughter, she has held me up through the struggles of my daughters diagnosis and the struggles that come with a wonderful spirited child. I really hope she receives this reward and knows just how valued she’s is.”

Our Great Teachers special section runs in the Victoria News on June 21 with the winners and all of the Victoria and Esquimalt nominees. You can also find a story here on the ceremony at Staples in Langford, where three selected teachers were honoured as this year’s representatives.
