Black Press and Staples, in partnership with Camosun College, are proud to recognize some of the great teachers found here in the Capital Region. We asked our readers to nominate teachers who have gone above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of the students they teach.

Susanna Solecki is a teacher at South Park Family elementary school. Here is what nominator Farheen HaQ said about her:

“Susanna is a teacher that treats all her students like her own children, her love for them is so evident and her passion for teaching comes across every day in her smile and her genuine love of teaching. Students love her, parents love her – all because she is doing what she loves. It is a true testament to doing something for the love of it.

“When asked what particularly moves her about teaching she says it is wonderful to watch a child’s world expand and grow as they learn to read and being able to facilitate that is a gift for her. Susanna is able to keep her class engaged, has everyone in laughs and has a heartfelt curiousity about the natural world and for learning in general that rubs off on all who meet her.”

Our Great Teachers special section runs in the Victoria News on June 21 with the winners and all of the Victoria and Esquimalt nominees. You can also find a story here on the ceremony at Staples in Langford, where three selected teachers were honoured as this year’s representatives.
