Did you thank your bus driver today? According to a Victoria News poll, 94 per cent of respondents regularly say ‘thank you’ to the driver before they hop off a BC Transit bus.
Out of 142 votes cast, 94 per cent of transit-takers who answered the Victoria News poll said yes, they thank the bus driver.
March 18 is Transit Driver Appreciation Day and people across North America are showing extra appreciation to the drivers who help them get from point A to point B safely.
“Transit drivers do an awesome job, day after day,” commented Linda Burbridge. “Many people don’t understand how well they balance customer service, traffic safety and staying on schedule. Of course I say thank you!”
Jeanna Gale said she thanks the driver, “every single time (even if I get a grumpy driver). I also wish them a good evening.”

Claire Trevena, Minster of Transportation and Infrastructure thanked BC bus drivers in a statement, saying: “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all of the BC Transit Drivers throughout the province who help people get around their communities safely. Whether going to school or work, or visiting friends or family, our bus drivers play an important role in our daily lives. I encourage everyone riding the bus today to let their driver know they appreciate them.”
BC Transit created a series of driver appreciation videos from across the province, including drivers from Salt Spring Island, Kamloops and Prince George.
They ask bus riders who wish to thank their drivers via social media to use the hashtag #TDAD.
Or, says BC Transit: “Customers can also simply thank their transit driver whenever they are exiting the bus.”
Happy Transit Driver Appreciation Day! #TDAD @BCTransit

Transit drivers are pretty awesome, just like Gord in the @cityofkamloops! He has been a transit driver since 2006. Gord appreciates the kind words folks share with him, as do all transit drivers around the world. Help celebrate #TDAD by saying #thanks to your driver! 👍🚌 pic.twitter.com/l21mu1TqT6
