An Oak Bay teacher got a surprise visit this morning (Nov. 22) from Dylan Willows and Jason Lamb, hosts of 91.3 the Zone’s morning show.
Mme. Sandra Gabaglia, a French immersion teacher at École Willows School was the October winner of their Teacher of the Month contest.
One of Gabaglia’s students, Ella, heard about the contest on her way home from school one day and knew that she wanted to nominate her teacher. The class had been through a lot since September, waiting for their portable to be finished, and she felt Gabaglia had been a great teacher throughout. Ella noted in her nomination form that Gabaglia organized a lot of field trips, such as nature walks, visiting a bird sanctuary, getting a VIP tour of the legislature and watching a bird documentary at IMAX.
“I know it has been really stressful for her through all of this and she’s just been amazing through it,” said Ella.
The rest of class agreed that Gabaglia deserved the award. They were also thrilled about the Big Wheel Burger gift certificates that came with the award. Gabaglia will also receive a free pair of custom printed Converse shoes from Baggins.
“It is a great honour to be chosen by the Zone as the Teacher of the Month, and nominated by Ella, a wonderful grade 4 student. And I am glad that we finally have a classroom,” said Gabaglia.
It has been an exciting week for Gabaglia and her class – moving into their portable Monday and receiving this surprise today.
