Streets, sidewalks and transit buses brimming with people signify success for three days of meat and music in Esquimalt.
The annual Esquimalt Rib Fest filled Bullen Park Sept. 8 to 10, offering local entertainment, craft beer, cider and wine, free kids’ activities, local arts, and vendors alongside the best ribs in the country.
This year, five professional rib teams competed for the coveted People’s Choice.

Proceeds from the event support community through local charities and school-sponsored activities for our community’s youth. The Esquimalt Firefighters Charitable Foundation – working with the Esquimalt Rib Fest Society and seven local non-profit groups – has raised over $1 million for local charities in the past decade. The 2023 numbers are not yet tallied.
The firefighter foundation has distributed $450,000 to more than 40 local groups and the Rib Fest Society has generated $420,000, donating $360,000 to the Esquimalt High turf fund alone.
