PHOTOS: Black Press celebrates its 1,200 Greater Victoria newspaper carriers

About 1,200 carriers deliver free community newspapers to approximately 100,000 homes and businesses

Across Greater Victoria, a small army of about 1,200 Black Press carriers deliver free community newspapers to approximately 100,000 homes and businesses.

Thanks to a little help from the Fairway Gorge Paddling Club and Fairway Market, the people who get the Victoria News, Saanich News, Oak Bay News, Peninsula News Review, Goldstream Gazette and Sooke News Mirror out to readers, enjoyed Carrier Appreciation Day with a paddle on the waters of the Gorge waterway Sept. 15.

The celebration under sunny skies comes ahead of international newspaper carrier day celebrated on Oct. 12. In Canada, national newspaper carrier day is marked on Sept. 4.

Anyone interested can email circulation@vicnews.com or find contact information for their community news circulation manager on page 6 of their local paper. Publishers across the six papers thank the incredible carriers from Victoria News, Oak Bay News, Saanich News, Peninsula News Review, Goldstream News Gazette, and Sooke News Mirror.

“Your hard work ensures that our papers reach every corner of our community, and we truly appreciate every single one of you,” said Randi Page, publisher of the Victoria News. “Also, thank you to the Fairway Gorge Paddling Club and specifically Jennifer Loo and Erik Ages for all their support in putting this together and for donating the dragon boat rides and to Fairway Foods for donating the hot dogs and goodies.”
