PHOTOS: Cadboro Bay Festival brings family fun to Saanich

The festival featured games, information displays, music and food

The Cadboro Bay Festival was a great outing for families looking for fun activities during this B.C. Day long weekend.

The 2023 festival was held Sunday (Aug. 6) at Cadboro-Gyro Park with lawn games, arts and craft stations, information displays and food.

There was also live music from Rhymer and Wells, Eden Poynter, West My Friend and the Love Cats.

Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the Cadboro Bay Village and the history of Cadboro-Gyro Park.

There was no sand sculpting competition this year as the beach sand at Cadboro Bay isn’t the right type of sand for making castles. The sand had been trucked in for the competitions in previous years.

Sarah Faria, programmer for special events in Saanich, says trucking in the sand was costly and they wanted to make that the natural environment of the park and the beach was not changed this year.

This was Faria’s first time running the festival, which was started in 2011.

A new feature at the 2023 event was a bike valet hosted by Capital Bike.

There was also a free shuttle to the festival from the University of Victoria.

Festival organizers encouraged visitors to check out local businesses in the village.
