PHOTOS: Tour de Rock send-off fundraiser gives boost to cause

Members of the community came together to help the campaign get closer to fundraising goal

There were smiles abound at the Tour de Rock Send off Fundraiser on Friday (Sept. 19) in the Victoria Police Department parking lot.

"It's going really good, lots of sponsors, people are really supporting us," said Randy Madahar, owner of Kuku's food truck which supported the event. "The whole community has been really nice and it's been so great."

Madahar got involved to show support to his daughter Shaveeta, who spent the last five months battling colon cancer.

Fifty per cent of the proceeds from Kuku's food truck went to the Tour de Rock fundraiser for cancer research and support services.

"We raised $7,200," Madahar said the day after the event.

Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock kicked off Sept. 21 in Port Alice, with a team of emergency service personnel and media cycling 14 days across 1,200 km on Vancouver Island to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society.

As of Sept. 20, the campaign raised $290,177.80 of its $1,000,000 fundraising goal.
