A vibrant cultural festival is coming to Beckwith Park in Saanich.
Punjabi Mela, put on by the Punjabi Cultural Community Association of Victoria, will take over the park at 857 Beckwith Ave. on Sunday, Aug. 17, from 2 to 8 p.m.
Bring some lawn chairs and blankets and take in a day of tradition and community spirit. There will be live music, dance performances, cultural singing and speeches. Attendees can also bring their best moves to the open dance floor.
Enjoy free, simple food items at Kuku’s Food Truck, and shop at the vendors on site offering food, clothing and jewelry.
This year’s festival will celebrate India’s 79th Independence Day, a public holiday that honours those who fought for India’s independence from Britain.
The event is family friendly, and admission is free.
