Quadra Village Community Centre is celebrating five decades of serving the community with a peek behind the scenes and a chance to rekindle old memories at 901 Kings Rd.
Formerly Blanshard Community Centre, the group formed as a non-profit in 1974 to meet the needs of the surrounding community. To celebrate its 50th anniversary serving the Hillside-Quadra neighbourhood, the centre will host an open house on Oct. 7 from 2 to 8 p.m.
“Quadra Village Community Centre has been critical to the well-being of this neighbourhood in the wake of major redevelopment in the late 1960s. Through advocacy, hard work, creativity and a people-first approach we’ve made a difference every day,” executive director Kelly Greenwell said in a news release.
The event is an opportunity to reconnect with other members of the community while looking back at the centre’s history and ongoing impact on the neighbourhood. There will be photos on display showing the centre’s evolution, as well as words from community, staff, board members and other volunteers sharing their experiences.
Food and refreshments will be provided, and information will be on hand about current Quadra Village Community Centre programs.
The centre has evolved and grown to facilitate services that support a variety of needs, stretching from pre-natal, to childcare and youth programs, to senior support, as well as resources like food distribution, technology access and a clothing room.
