Free repairs, cycling demonstrations and a chance to win prizes will be available on the Saanich Peninsula during a week-long effort encouraging people to ride their bikes.
Peninsula communities will have two celebration stations set up during GoByBike Week, which runs from June 3 to 9.
One station will be located at Sidney’s Iroquois Park on June 4 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The second site will be where the Lochside Trail meets up with the Newman Park beach access in Central Saanich on June 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Riders are being encouraged to visit celebration stations across Greater Victoria and cycling to four of them will make cyclists eligible for a grand prize bike. More information can be found at gobybikebc.ca.
In a news release, Central Saanich Mayor Ryan Windsor said transportation emissions are the district’s primary source of greenhouse gas.
“We are thrilled to once again sponsor a local celebration station and hope it encourages peninsula riders to take part in this fun event promoting active modes of transportation,” Windsor said.
Acting Sidney Mayor Sara Duncan said the week-long initiative is a way to get the word out that cycling is or all ages, skill levels and abilities with the right infrastructure in place.
“The Town of Sidney is proud to sponsor a Celebration Station at Iroquois Park and recognize all those who know, or have just discovered, how enjoyable it can be to save money, avoid road congestion, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by choosing to travel by bike,” Duncan said.
