Accessibility takes a leap in the annual holiday parade through Victoria streets with the addition of audio description.
This year, the Victoria Disability Resource Centre offers live audio description at its location at Government and Belleville streets. Visit drcvictoria.com for more information.
With a 40 per cent chance of rain on Saturday, residents should bundle up to participate in the 42nd Peninsula Co-op Santa Claus Parade. Temperatures will dip to 2C on the evening of the parade. Luckily, hot chocolate will be handed out at Douglas and Humboldt Street starting at 4:30 p.m., and donations to the Mustard Seed Street Church and Food Bank will be happily accepted. Road closures for the parade start at 3 p.m., with the travelling event itself taking off at 5 p.m.
The parade runs Nov. 30 starting from the corner of Government and Belleville streets, moving along Government, east on Humboldt and north on Douglas. The parade disperses at the Victoria Public Market.
Santa and Mrs. Claus are available for photos by donation at Centennial Square after the parade, where the Downtown Victoria Business Association Lights of Wonder kicks off.
The Lights of Wonder transforms Centennial Square into a holiday wonderland with outdoor lighted exhibits, interactive light tunnels and a 40-foot decorated tree. Admission is free and frequently includes live entertainment and a variety of food opportunities.
The ferris wheel returns Dec. 20 to 31 nightly from 4 p.m.
