Saanich Peninsula Parish is holding a walk, Sunday, March 10, to commemorate Lent and as an act of solidarity with refugees and economic migrants from around the world.

The event is called Share the Journey Walk and falls upon National Migrants Day.

The walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth’s Roman Catholic Church and organizers say all are welcome.

The group will hold posters and placards to highlight the plight of refugees and will walk down Third Street, then to Fifth Street, down to Henry Avenue and then returning to the church for 10:30 a.m. mass.

Youth members of the congregation will lead the way.

“Our message is about hope, for all those who are forced out of their homes due to conflict and economic strife,” said Melanie Ehrlick, parish administrator.

The parish says further information, including facts about refugees’ plight, can be found on the Development and Peace website they have with links to devp.org/en/education/fall2018/action.

They also remind people about the clocks changing over the weekend.

St. Elizabeth’s Roman Catholic Church is located at 10030 Third St. in Sidney.
