Kids at Victoria’s George Jay Elementary will be able to “shop” for Christmas presents with the help of local donations.
For more than a decade the George Jay Holiday Emporium has hosted a market-style event where students can purchase gifts for their families for $1 a piece. The household wares come from donated items put forward by the community.
This year the school’s parent advisory council is asking for the donation of any gently-used household goods for the emporium.

“Examples could include candles, toys, ties, jewelry, picture frames, CDs, DVDs, books, puzzles, purses, wallets, scarves, tools, household goods, bath and beauty items — and we always need ‘Dad stuff,’” said Angela Carmichael, PAC co-chair. “We do stress that although items are sold inexpensively, goods should be clean and not broken – remember, our kids are ‘shopping’ for their families.”
The school could also use donated wrapping supplies such as gift bags, wrapping paper, small boxes, tape and tissue paper.

Students will be able to buy up to four items for $1 each, with proceeds going back to the school to sponsor field trips and other events.
If there are items that appear as though they should sell for more than $1, at the end of the day doors will open to parents so they can also come shop for their families.
Starting Nov. 30, donations can be dropped off at the school at 1118 Princess Ave. until Dec. 17.
The George Jay Emporium will run on Dec. 19 from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
