The 21st Victoria Women’s Expo is coming to Pearkes Recreation Centre on March 2 and 3!

Are you looking to connect with other like-minded women? Do you want to learn a new skill? Are you looking for the perfect gift for that special someone for Mother’s Day, Easter, or a birthday?

Featuring over 100 exhibitors, the exposition features a variety of booths targeted to women of all ages.

But show producer Virginia Ritchie says everyone is welcome, not just women.

“We want everyone to come,” she said. “We see a lot of men at our show, I think more than any women’s show and I’ve been to many.”

At the show, you’ll get to see women from all walks of life and find a wealth of resources whether that be for products, skills, health issues, fitness, hormone balancing, beauty demos, and fashion.

This year, Ritchie said there is a big focus on checking out different careers. Camosun College, women in trades, the military (air, sea and ground), RCMP, fitness and yoga instructors, paddle boarders and more will all be there to answer questions and inspire.

There will also be samples and food on site. “Let me just say Julie’s Delights Chocolates will be doing a stage presentation, Country Crepes, if you like crepes. And how could I forget? Merlot gummies,” Ritchie said.

“Lots of yummy food, yes there’s shopping, there’s some educational seminars … you’re going to walk away with some information for sure and you’re going to have a lot of fun.”

And if you’re coming with kids, don’t worry because there will be a kids’ play area with colouring face painting, and a kids’ contest.

The exposition at 3100 Tillicum Road runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Admission is $5, cash only at the door. Be one of the first 100 people through the door on Saturday and Sunday to receive a free swag bag!

Beyond 20/20: Opto-mization’s brain-centric approach to optometry

Clear eyesight is just one aspect of good vision, which is why at Opto-mization, we diagnose and treat those visual problems that can make daily tasks challenging. Using vision therapy, we’re able to enhance the connection between the eyes and the brain, which improves visual function and your quality of life.

If you experience the unpleasant effects of dizziness and vertigo, have had a concussion or stroke, battle computer fatigue, are an athlete who wants to improve their visual performance through sports training, or have a child with reading and learning difficulties, then you are an ideal candidate for vision therapy. At Opto-mization, we go beyond what you may think of when you think optometrist. Our experts are here to assess and treat eye conditions to improve the 17 distinct visual skills essential for optimal vision and success in daily life. This includes eye tracking, coordination and overall visual function.

Many everyday problems can be caused by lack of visual skills, something that is often overlooked. For instance, up to 80% of struggling readers are lacking visual skills. Vision problems involving attention also cause 7 of the 9 symptoms of attention deficit disorder. If the eyes can’t track accurately through the text, reading becomes difficult. These problems can mimic other learning disabilities. Many children unknowingly experience vision problems that make it difficult to learn and reach their full potential.

At Opto-mization, we address the intricate relationship between the brain and the eyes. By employing brain training techniques, we can enhance the efficiency of visual processing. For instance, through vision therapy, we can work to improve vision skills necessary for reading, such as eye tracking, accommodation (how accurately the eyes focus on the page), eye teaming (how well the eyes work together), and visual processing which includes things like visual memory for spelling and directionality for understanding letter reversals.

Vision therapy is beneficial to children and adults alike. Once undergoing vision therapy, many children patients who are impacted by learning difficulties or had problems with activities like sports go on to see significant improvements in not only their vision but also in their academics. We’ve also helped people conquer balance issues and migraines, aided patients in reclaiming their lives after a stroke, and more.

Opto-mization NeuroVisual Optometry & Vision Therapy offers comprehensive solutions tailored to individuals of all ages. Visit neurovisualperformance.ca to embark on your journey towards optimized vision today.
