Contemporary jazz coming to North Saanich church

Led by Nanaimo-raised multi-instrumentalist John Lee, the trio features bassist Kosma Busheikin and drummer Graham Villette.

The John Lee Trio will take the stage at St. John’s United Church’s Jazz Vespers on April 6 at 7 p.m.

Led by Nanaimo-raised multi-instrumentalist John Lee, the trio features bassist Kosma Busheikin and drummer Graham Villette.

Lee, a Berklee College of Music graduate, has performed with jazz greats such as Cyrus Chestnut, Terell Stafford, and Carl Allen. His latest album, Second Wind, was released in 2024.

Busheikin, originally from the Czech Republic, studied jazz at Vancouver Island University and has played at festivals across B.C. 

Villette, a Nanaimo-based drummer with a master’s degree in jazz performance from the University of Toronto, has performed with artists including Cory Weeds and Akiko Tsuruga.

Jazz Vespers continues on May 6 with the Josh Warren Trio.

The event takes place at St. John’s United Church, 10990 West Saanich Rd. Admission is by donation (suggested $20).
