The Concert of Remembrance, a longstanding tradition of the Canadian College of Performing Arts, will take place on Friday, Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m. This year, the college has partnered with the District of Oak Bay and the Band of the 5th (BC) Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, for an evening of music, storytelling, and poetry.
“This concert marks the start of our season [and] has allowed students to build connections, perform meaningful music to honour sacrifices made during conflicts, and understand the value of community engagement,” said Danielle Meunier, director of education at the college.
The Concert of Remembrance will be held at the Dave Dunnet Community Theatre at Oak Bay High (2121 Cadboro Bay Rd.). The Band of the 5th (BC) Field Regiment will perform nine pieces, concluding with the national anthem.
“For two decades, the concert has served as a tribute to those who have served,” concert director R.J. Peters said in a news release.
Following the concert, students will perform at five locations across Victoria during the Remembrance Day weekend.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Canadian Heritage Arts Society and the Esquimalt Military Family Resource Centre, which supports military families by providing assistance with community integration, deployments, social work services, and childcare.
Tickets are available on a pay-what-you-can basis at the door or in advance at CCPAcanada.com/tickets.
