Good food, great music and a finale of fire are set to celebrate Canada Day with free fanfare in the Capital City.
Victoria hosts its annual event with a solid lineup of B.C. musicians and activities for residents and visitors of all ages on July 1.
“This year’s theme, Stronger Together, invites residents and visitors to reflect on our shared spaces and celebrate the diverse stories that connect us,” Mayor Marianne Alto said in a news release.
The free, all-day event includes a performance from headliner Delhi 2 Dublin – known for their high-energy Bhangra, electronic and Celtic fusion. The group is joined by Blue Moon Marquee, whose gritty, jazz-soaked blues earned them the 2024 Juno Award for Blues Album of the Year, and MIINA, a dynamic pop-rock group with bold melodies and heartfelt lyrics. Victoria-based JAXXEE will bring powerhouse vocals and bold songwriting, while Tk The Artist amps up the stage with genre-blending hip-hop that’s both personal and high energy.
The day opens with a welcome from the Lekwungen Traditional Dancers, followed by performances from REACH!, Bagatelle and Victoria’s youth poet laureate Shauntelle/Huup?aqsa/TSAYLE Dick-Charleson. Host and master of ceremonies DJ Boitano will keep the energy going throughout the day.
A busking showcase at Ship Point will feature a local performers stage, celebrating homegrown talent from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Food trucks and activities for all ages will fill the Inner Harbour, leading up to a spectacular fireworks display to close the night.
