OUTstages queer theatre festival is back for its fifth anniversary at Intrepid Theatre with new dates, Feb. 1-9.

Festival week is filled with theatre, music, storytelling, burlesque and drag, some returning favourites, as well as the first international show it has presented, Lucy McCormick’s Triple Threat.

As such, festival audiences can look forward to a distinctly different lineup, says OUTStages curator, Sean Guist.

Triple Threat (9 p.m., Feb. 1) is a beautiful, hilarious, filthy and smart show from London,” he says. “It is a re-enactment of the New Testament with a queer female perspective and features pop ballads, dance numbers and performance art.”

OUTstages launched in 2015 and ran after Victoria Pride Week in June of that year. The festival annually showcases the most electrifying, bold and provocative performances and queer artists.

“We also have the brand new show from storyteller and writer Ivan Coyote, Trader Time.” Guist says. “It’s a journey of growing up queer in a cold, cold place that blends story, song and visuals in a live multimedia show, with recording artist Sarah MacDougall and a three-piece band.”

This is the third time festival favourite Coyote has been a part of OUTstages and the Intrepid team are thrilled to have this newest show be part of the fifth anniversary. Guist, who also serves as marketing and development manager at Intrepid, joins company executive director Heather Lindsay travelling to check out shows to consider for programming into OUTstages.
