An Australian classic returns to its place among the popcorn this weekend, as Frank Miller's Mad Max series surges on with Fury Road.
Starring Tom Hardy in the title role, which once upon a time shot Mel Gibson to fame and plenty of fortune, it's the first Max movie since Beyond Thunderdome, which was released in 1985. (The first Mad Max film was released in 1979 and its sequel, Road Warrior, in 1981.)
The new movie's had plenty of terrific press, thanks to a slew of ever-improving and nostalgia-stroking trailers on YouTube.
The film also stars Nicholas Hoult, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Charlize Theron.
"The film's first moment of silence, at about the 20-minute mark, may make you wonder if you've gone deaf," writes the National Post's Chris Knight, in his review of the film. "Fury Road is a two-hour car chase, but strapped to the hood (much like Max himself in the early scenes) is a simple, satisfying story."
The film has rocketed out of the gate, critically, with a 98 per cent approval rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, as of Friday at Noon.
