Ellen Doty, one of Canada’s premiere young artists and songwriters, brings her pared down sound to Hermann’s Jazz Club March 27 as part of her 17-city CD release tour for Come Fall.
The new album has seen Doty strip the music down to its bare bones, leaving a raw and incredibly spacious sound with no bass, no backup vocals, no horns and few layers. Just piano, voice and drums. Come Fall offers a mixture of pop, jazz, soul, folk and indie, a sound that is uniquely Doty’s.
Her 2014 debut pop-jazz album Gold reached top 10 on numerous college radio charts in Canada, and was followed by a successful 42-date tour across the country. In the past year, she supported two-time Grammy-winner Gregory Porter, and recently completed a Western Canada concert theatre tour with award-winning saxophonist Eli Bennett from Vancouver. She was also named by CBC one of the top jazz musicians under 35.
Showtime on Tuesday is 8 p.m. and tickets are $20 each. To reserve seats, click here.
