Do you hear what I hear? A music event is returning to Metchosin but under a new name and new leadership.
The Java Jive Coffee House is what Dale Morrison is calling it. She got the name suggestion from a friend in Australia.
“It’s the perfect name because it’s so catchy,” said Morrison. “It’s the best blend of music and coffee in a name.”
Java Jive is the reincarnation of the Metchosin Society for Music and Creativity, which previously held monthly music houses at St. Mary’s Metchosin Church. But when the organizer decided to step back in mid-2019, there was a hole left in the community music scene.
The Sooke woman, along with two others, decided it was time to bring back the tunes to Metchosin.
“It’s just a wonderful way to experience local musicians you’d never be able to hear,” said Morrison.

The Java Jive Coffee House is hosting its first event featuring The Eddy Fury Band. The group features locals Sean Lavoy, Sean Fisher, Freddy Brown and Eddy Fury on vocals and guitar. Their music is described as having country roots style and a ‘West Coast feel.’
The event takes place at the Metchosin Community House, 4430 Happy Valley Rd., on Saturday, Jan. 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. The suggested donation is $7, with a portion going to the community house and the rest towards the featured performer. Tea, coffee and cake will be available by donation. The Java Jive is expected to return every fourth Saturday of the month.
