The Pacific Coast Stage Company is looking for performing artists to apply for its 15th season of the Nanaimo Fringe Festival.
The call for applications is for artists who have a passion for bold, boundary-breaking theatre. From Aug. 7-17, the festival will bring dynamic and original works to the stage.
“Why do people love NanFringe? Whether it's the cutting-edge performances, the inclusive and supportive environment, or the expert technical team, there’s something truly special about this festival. The energy is contagious, the talent is undeniable, and the experience is unforgettable,” noted a news release from the organizers.
The stage company is offering two scholarships this year, one to an Indigenous artist or group and one to a transgender artist or group. The two winners will have their festival fee paid for by the organization and an anonymous donor.
The fringe festival is welcoming a new artistic producer this year, Yvette Dudley-Neuman. She is an actor and voiceover artist who has directed more than 25 theatre productions and produced more than 40 productions, tours, and historical re-enactment events. She said in the release that she feels fortunate and excited to have the opportunity to work with the stage company and build on the "excellent foundation" it has established.
“In an ever-changing artistic world, it is imperative to encourage cutting-edge performing artists and creative risk. We must recognize the Nanaimo Fringe as a gem in our city and revel in its potential to highlight local, national, and international artists in our community," she said.
Artists can apply for mainstage live performances or a 30-minute showcase online. The deadline for submissions is April 1.
