You won't have to wait that much longer, Canada.
Sony's PlayStation 4 will launch north of the 49th on Nov. 15, 2013, just in time for Christmas and at a price tag of $399. The PS4 will also launch in the United States on Nov. 15, and will be rolled out to Australia, the U.K., Austria, Germany, and Sweden (and other European countries) starting on Nov. 29.
By contrast, Microsoft's XBox One will cost $499 at its launch, which has yet to be announced.
"The announcement of a near-simultaneous launch for PlayStation 4 in 32 countries is another thumb in the eye to Sony's chief rival Microsoft, which recently announced that it had to scale back its release plans for its upcoming Xbox One," wrote Wired's Chris Kohler. "It will make Xbox One available in just 13 countries (in 2013)... scaled back from its original plan of 21 countries."
The PS4's release date was announced during a Gamescom press conference in Cologne (Koln), Germany, and the console will feature a built-in Twitch application – a popular footage streaming service which allows players and users to broadcast their screens and gameplay (CBC).

Each version of the PlayStation has been rolled out just in time for – or in advance of – the holiday season.
The original PlayStation was released in Japan in December, 1994 and in North America on Sept. 29, 1995.
The PlayStation 2 (PSX) was released in North America in October, 2000 and sold $250 million worth on its first day. It since became the highest-selling video game console of all-time, with 155 million units sold as of March, 2012.
Sony's next console – the predictable titled PlayStation 3 – was released in North America on Nov. 17, 2006.
