Performing as an artist who won 18 Grammy awards, sold 75 million records and became the first woman in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame might seem daunting.

But for Denita Asberry, it’s like riding a bike. For one night at the McPherson on March 23, the premier Aretha Franklin tribute act will be bringing such timeless classic hits as “Think,” “You Make Me Feel (Like a Natural Woman),” “Respect” and more to life.

Like Franklin, who was as classic as they come, Asberry was born in Detroit. She honed her musical talents in pubs, nightclubs and by backing such groups as the Righteous Brothers, Doobie Brothers and Bad Company.

However, it was her Aretha Franklin persona that propelled Asberry. She first dazzled crowds all over the U.S. in the show BEEHIVE – a tribute show featuring the music of The Supremes, Amy Winehouse and other famous femmes who rocked that hairstyle. BEEHIVE brought her to Las Vegas, where later, she continued performing as Franklin in the world-renowned Legends in Concert series. She also wowed the crowds in the series doing tributes of superstars Tina Turner and Whitney Houston.

The Aretha Franklin Tribute Show has three stops on Vancouver Island. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit the Royal and McPherson box office online at rmts.bc.ca or call 250-386-6121 to book by phone.
