Classical music lovers will get to experience baroque music in two distinctly different Victoria venues this November.

The Victoria Baroque ensemble's season opens Nov. 1 at St. John the Divine church with Spirit and Song, featuring Bach's Cantata 170 and vocal concertos by Buxtehude. Guest director and contralto soloist Vicki St. Pierre will lead the 7:30 p.m. performance.

Two days later, the group shifts to Hermann's Jazz Club for their "Bach in the Pub" series on Nov. 3. The 7 p.m. program includes works by 17th-century composers John Dowland, Henry Purcell, Francesca Caccini and Barbara Strozzi. Food and drink service begins at 5:30 p.m.

St. Pierre brings extensive experience performing with groups including the Academy of Ancient Music, Tafelmusik and Les Violons du Roy. Victoria Baroque performs using period instruments from the 18th century.

Tickets for both concerts are available at victoria-baroque.com.
