An afternoon of choral grandeur is coming to Victoria next month.
On March 2 at St. John the Divine Church, Victoria Baroque – a group that presents chamber, orchestral and choral works with instruments akin to those used in the 18th century – will perform Vivaldi’s Gloria and Mozart’s Missa brevis in B flat. The concert will also include a Vivaldi concerto for trumpet and oboe and a piece by Cree composer and conductor Andrew Balfour.
"This concert will transport audiences with music that blends theatrical expressivity with sacred brilliance," Victoria Baroque said in a news release.
Under the direction of Vancouver-born conductor David Stratkauskas, the show will boast an all-local cast of soloists.
"While hailing from different parts of Canada, these talented musicians have chosen to build their careers in Victoria, enriching the city’s vibrant classical music scene," Victoria Baroque added in the same news release.
