5 family-friendly things to do this Father's Day weekend on the Saanich Peninsula

Just in time for Father's Day weekend

Take dad to a fair

Island View Mini Golf

Enjoy 18 holes on a beautifully landscaped mini-golf course right in the heart of farm country in Central Saanich. The course offers a scenic atmosphere with a pond, fountains, birds, and plantings, plus there’s ice cream, snacks and a large patio where you can relax. Islandviewgolf.ca

Don your rainbows

Pride Festival continues to grow throughout Vancouver Island, and that especially rings true for Sidney in 2024. The town’s first-ever large Pride Festival is on June 15 with vendors, food trucks, music, dance and drag performances. Last year, Pride Day saw local businesses set up colourful window and curbside displays plus activities like face painting and selfie stations, but this year the festival will be more official.

Taking place at Sidney Bandshell from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the festival will also have around 20 vendors, a kid zone, a pet selfie station and a doggy kissing booth.

Camp on the beach

Island View Beach Regional Park is prime for campers, offering a self-contained RV and tent campground with beachfront views and 51 hectares of conservation area. It operates seasonally from Victoria Day long weekend in May to Labour Day long weekend in September. Children’s Garden Gnome Hunt at The Butchart Gardens

Calling all children: 10 garden gnomes have escaped from The Seed & Gift Store and are hiding throughout the Butchart Gardens. Children under the age of 17 are invited to collect a map from the Admission Gate or Visitor Information Centre to help Butchart Gardens locate the missing gnomes. Once they’ve found all 10 gnomes, they can return the map to the Visitor Information Centre to receive a special gift. This special event runs June 14-16.
