Update June 27 5 p.m.

The City of Langford said as of 9:00 a.m. on Friday, June 28, residents will be able to pay their property taxes in person by visiting a temporary office space on the ground floor of 877 Goldstream Avenue. It is fully accessible from the left side of the building, near the rear parking lot. Signage will be in place to direct residents to the temporary office.

The City says they are finalizing arrangements to provide front-counter access to all City departments and they plan to communicate further information to the public early next week.

A "significant flooding event" on Wednesday (June 26) has impacted a large portion of Langford City Hall, forcing the building's closure.

In a news release late on June 26, the city says a "robust mitigation plan" is being implemented. At 12 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, they provided an update.

According to a Facebook post by the city, the flooding was caused by a burst pipe in the attic above the third floor. A large section of the building, including other businesses and units on the property, was damaged.

City staff are working remotely in the meantime. The city also said that given the July 2 property tax deadline, residents are encouraged to pay online, at the bank, by mail, through Paymentus with a credit card, or to use the after-hours drop box to the left of the front door of City Hall.

According to an email from The City of Langford, council chambers were unaffected by the flood. Mayor Scott Goodmanson also confirmed many of the city's operations are also unaffected. However, the finance, administration and planning departments have been affected by the flooding and efforts are underway.

On the first floor, efforts are ongoing to build a temporary reception area and get in-person service as soon as possible.

"Despite City Hall being closed today for in-person service, staff across most departments continue to serve the public as they would on any given day," Goodmanson said.
