Prime Minister Mark Carney has set a date for the Battle River-Crowfoot byelection.
The byelection, to replace MP Damien Kurek, who stepped down to allow Conservative Party of Canada leader Pierre Poilievre to run, will be held on Aug. 18.
There will be advance voting days on Friday, Aug. 8; Saturday, Aug. 9; Sunday, Aug. 10 and Monday, Aug. 11, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Election day will be Monday, Aug. 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
"Put up a new sign this morning. I believed it during the last election & I believe it now, the common sense policies and principles that Pierre Poilievre fights for are what Canada needs. Here in Battle River-Crowfoot he will make sure YOU are heard," Kurek said in a post on X Monday morning.
Kurek officially resigned his seat in the House of Commons earlier this month. He announced his intention to resign in May, but officially tabled his resignation in the House of Commons on June 17.
Kurek was elected with around 80 per cent of the vote in the riding in the April 28 election. Poilievre lost his Ontario riding of Carleton to Liberal Bruce Fanjoy by 4,513 votes in the April 28 federal election. Poilievre has vowed to be a strong representative in the House of Commons for the people of Central Alberta.
"It would be an honour to represent the people of Battle River–Crowfoot on the floor of the House of Commons as their Member of Parliament.
I will follow in the footsteps of their outgoing MP (Damien Kurek) and fight for oil and gas, low taxes, farmers, firearms owners, free enterprise, a strong defence and respect for the West," Poilievre said in a post on X on June 30.
"The farmers, energy workers and soldiers of Battle River–Crowfoot feed, power and protect Canada.I will work hard and with humility to earn the support of the great people in this extraordinary region."
