BC Highway Patrol renews calls for witnesses of 2003 Highway 97 hit-and-run

Incident occurred on April 19, 2003, no suspect has ever been named

The BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) are asking any witnesses to an unsolved 2003 fatal hit-and-run south of 100 Mile House to come forward.

In the early hours of April 19, 2003, a truck driver came across the body of Susan Davidson, a 37-year old female pedestrian from 100 Mile House, who was "located in the right lane of the southbound lanes on Highway 97 just south of the junction with Highway 24" noted a press release sent out by BCHP Thursday, Aug. 22.

Davidson was fatally struck by a vehicle that had fled the scene.

BCHP said the area where Susan was located was a "rural, lightly developed area at the time with no street lights" and Susan had been wearing a dark brown oilskin ankle-length coat, similar to an Australian Outback coat.

Melissa Jongema, a BCHP media relations officer, said there is someone out there who knows what happened to Davidson on April 19, 2003. Jongema said BCHP has brought attention back to this case as a plea to potential witnesses.

"So we did a lot of media work on this file for the first couple of years, but ultimately - it is still unsolved, and so we are still looking to find the person who knows something about what happened," Jongema told Black Press Media.

Jongema encouraged the public to talk about the case with people they know who may remember the incident. The more people they can reach, the more success BCHP might have in finding someone who knows what happened.

"Hopefully some tips will come in, and then we can start investigating the tips that come in and just follow up on any phone calls we can get," Jongema said.

Finally, Jongema said the only way a case would be closed is if it is made with a lot of thought and analysis from investigators.

Those with any information about the 2003 hit-and-run, or those who believe they hit something that they thought was an animal that night, are asked to contact BCHP at 250-395-2456 and refer to file 2003-1225.
