A driver was issued a ticket after a U-Haul truck crashed into a power pole in View Royal on Aug. 7.

Emergency crews had to carefully remove a driver from a vehicle in View Royal on Tuesday (Aug. 6) after the truck crashed into a hydro pole.

West Shore RCMP said the U-Haul truck was travelling along Island Highway shortly after 1 p.m. when the driver lost control a ran into the pole near Burnett Road. Fire crews had to carefully extract the driver and a passenger from the vehicle due to the danger posed by the live power lines, police said.

Both people who were inside the U-Haul received minor injuries and are expected to recover, police said. Police determined driver error to be the cause of the crash, with the 30-year-old who was behind the wheel getting a $368 ticket and six penalty points against their licence for driving without due care.

The roadway was shut down in both directions until around 7 p.m. as BC Hydro had to be called in to repair the damaged pole.
