Shampoo the goldendoodle is back home safe after spending about 10 days running wild in Golden Ears Provincial Park.
Owner Qiao Hu gave props to some local volunteers with tracking dogs and other tools, who help find lost pets across the region.
"A heartfelt thank you to Karen Nixon and Dyanne Jack from the Scent Rescue Team – your dedication and support from day one have been incredible. We couldn't have done it without you," he said.
He also thanked those who spread the message, offered help, and supported the distraught owners.
"Your kindness has meant the world to us," said Hu.
The Richmond man's three-year-old dog went missing on June 15 at about 7 p.m. Hu and Yuanye Jiang were on a weekend camping trip at Alouette Campground, when thunder and lightning spooked Shampoo, and she bolted into the woods.
The Scent Rescue Team was able to capture the dog on a remote camera, and they put food and a blanket bearing her family's scent into a cage trap, and eventually safely trapped the dog on Tuesday evening.
"Amazing work by Shampoo’s family who stayed there for 10 days and never wavered in their commitment to bringing her home," said pet rescuer Karen Nixon. "They did everything right and they trusted everything we told them."
Hu said Shampoo is "safe and sound," and looks like she had the best vacation of her life.
