Comox Valley RCMP is investigating after a collision claimed the life of an 83-year-old woman.
On July 15, at 3:38 p.m., police were called to the 1800-block of Anderton Road in Comox for a collision between a cyclist and a tractor-trailer. Unfortunately, despite the immediate life-saving efforts of bystanders, Emergency Health Services paramedics, and Comox Fire Rescue firefighters, the cyclist died as a result of her injuries.
The road was closed to traffic for several hours while a collision analyst from the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service attended for a full examination of the scene. Initial evidence gathered suggests that the driver of the truck did not see the cyclist before the collision.
The driver remained at the scene, provided first aid to the cyclist, and is co-operating with the investigation. At this time, it does not appear that driver impairment or speed are factors in this collision.
The BC Coroner’s Service is conducting a concurrent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the cyclist’s death. Anyone with information related to this collision that has not yet been shared with investigators is asked to contact the Comox Valley RCMP at 250-338-1321.
