Senior sexually assaulted by stranger inside her Vancouver Island home

Shawnigan Lake RCMP are asking the community for any information relating to a sexual assault that happened in Cobble Hill on July 23, 2024.

Shawnigan Lake RCMP are investigating the sexual assault of an elderly woman in her Cobble Hill home.

RCMP responded to the area of Carlton Drive in Cobble Hill just after 9 p.m. on July 23, in response to a report that an elderly woman had been sexually assaulted by an unknown man who had entered her home.

The suspect has been described as a medium build Caucasian man between the ages of 18 and 32 years old, roughly 5 foot 10 to 6 foot 1 tall. 

The man was last seen wearing a face covering, a dark bicycle helmet, and a light coloured t-shirt. 

The RCMP Police Dog Service initially attended the area alongside front-line officers but were unable to track the suspect.

RCMP said in a press release that at this time there are no other known connections to any other sexual assaults reported, and that the victim is currently being supported by Victim Services.

Anyone with anyone information regarding this assault is asked to contact Shawnigan Lake RCMP at 250-743-1549.

"Investigators were able to seized exhibits which will be subject to forensic analysis," said Corporal Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the RCMP. The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information or who may possess video surveillance in the area to come forward.
